Aircraft Materials Management Training Course

Course Introduction

Duration : 5 Days (9:00 - 17:30)

The supply chain of the aviation industry, particularly that for the spares used for supporting maintenance to ensure aircraft’s continuing airworthiness, is more complex than one would think.

This 5-day course is developed to provide a solid foundation for the inventory and procurement professionals engaged in the aviation industry by combining the basic concepts, key processes and application of such concepts to the full spectrum of aviation material management. The latter includes material planning, sourcing, provisioning and the related provisioning models and tools, repair management, stores and logistics management, strategic procurement, contract management as well as warranty administration and management. Local regulations related to component acceptance, e.g. AN 17, as well as the major documents and manuals together with the various ATA Specifications that the inventory and procurement practitioners will encounter in their daily work will also be covered.
In order to enable the candidates to reinforce and apply what they have learned from the course, individual or group exercises and case studies will also be provided.

Course Objectives

This 5-day course is aimed to:

  • Enable the candidates to build up their fundamental knowledge of  material management and to gain a better understanding of the complex aviation supply chain as well as the interaction of different processes in the spares business

  • Familiarise the candidates with the major inventory management related technical /non-technical documents and ATA Specifications , e.g. AMM,CMM,IPC,MMEL/MEL/RSPL /ATA Spec 100/ i2200,2000 etc., that they will encounter in their daily work

  • Provide candidates with the knowledge of airworthiness and quality standards in terms of spares acceptance standards under Hong Kong Air Regulations, e.g. AN17

  • Provide candidates with a basic understanding of some non-airworthiness related regulatory requirements regarding shipment and storage of specific spares, e.g. dangerous goods, compressed bottles, halons and parts classified as strategic components under the regulations of foreign countries

  • Provide candidates with a full understanding of the detailed material management functions covering sourcing, provisioning, repair, logistics, contracting, warranty and supplier performance.

  • Equip candidates with the necessary skills in applying different provisioning models / tools in calculating the spares requirements, for both the rotables and expendables, for the support of their entry-into-service (EIS) planning and the subsequent reviews/replenishment

  • Familiarise candidates with alternative sources to support normal aircraft operations and spares shortages

Who Should Attend

This course is suitable for aviation materials management/procurement specialists who require an overall understanding of the aircraft spares supply chain, component acceptance standards under HKCAD regulations and the major inventory related technical and non-technical manuals/documents, materials management functions and provisioning models to facilitate their materials planning to support both the EIS and normal operations.
As the aviation supply chain is very complex in nature therefore this course will also be beneficial to the technical services and maintenance planning engineers who may make use of the knowledge and skills obtained from the course to improve the quality of their decisions
